So good news to report everyone - the PET scan showed no activity! What does this mean? At present, Mom is cancer free. A mass did show where one of the original masses was, but it was quite a bit smaller, and showed no cancer, so the doctor has determined that it is likely scar tissue. She goes in to her general oncologist in a few weeks and we can address the pulmonary embolism then. Unfortunately the PET scan didn't detect this - it is usually not the tool that they use; it's usually a CT scan. Let's get her off this Coumadin and back on her arthritis meds and up and running!
As the doctor put it, she is "not out of the woods yet." Lung cancer is a combatant and persistent thing - it will likely rear its ugly head again. But today is a day for celebration. Thank you Lord for this reprieve!
